"Heroes" by MIKA

by E on 05-27-2014 at 11:50 PM

Heroes

The kids in the hundreds tomorrow
Will march through the door
They're fighting someone else's war
They'll have so many stories to tell
In exchange for a hero's farewell

I wish I could
I wish I could make you return
And what if I'll never discern
As you walk to the toll of the bell
You'll be fighting for our heaven with hell

And you don't understand
Why no one else can see

Your blood on me
And my blood on you
But to make you bleed
The only thing I wouldn't do

And you know heroes aren't meant to survive
So much harder to love when alive
Walk with the devil in your head
You would think you were better off dead

And you don't understand
Why no one else can see

Your blood on me
And my blood on you
But to make you bleed
The only thing I wouldn't do

Where can you go?
We fight we earn
We never learn
And through it all
The hero falls

I wish there was a way
To give you a hand to hold
Cause you don't have to die in your glory
To die to never grow old

Your blood on me
And my blood on you
But to make you bleed
The only thing I wouldn't do

Your blood on me
And my blood on you
But to make you bleed
The only thing I wouldn't do

Where can you go?
We fight we earn
We never learn
And through it all
The hero falls

E's Brief Glimpse

by E on 05-24-2014 at 09:00 PM
Since moving from Albany NY back to rural Minnesota, I've suffered a few setbacks and achieved a few gains. Because my absence was complete and total the last week-ish or so, I figured I should throw something up so people could see what I've been up to.

Loss: Wallet "went missing" the day we left NY. Cards cancelled, license reported stolen, etc. So far, the cards have been replaced and I'm waiting on my new license.

Gain: Made it home after a long, meandering road trip and took a couple of extra days to hit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum (which was XLNt) and my aunt's place in UP Michigan. Very much worth the decompression.

Loss: Hooked up my computer a couple days after making it back to MN and found a registry error. This error resulted in all of my files being lost, though I was able to recover about 40 files. Of these 40 files, my final draft thesis, biographies of new RP characters, unpublished stories featuring existing characters, and all of my Twitch overlay resources were lost.

Gain: Taking my time in unpacking/repacking for the ultimate move to Texas, cleaning out an old storage closet so my mother will leave me alone about it for another couple of years, and just simply pulling myself back together after a particularly harrowing last month of my degree.

Loss: No internet in MN.

Gain: New phone allows for the creation of a wireless hot-spot with unlimited data. Epic.

Now that I know I can get online with my main rig, my online presence won't be quite so limited. I'll see you all on the forums! If you need to get a hold of me pronto-pup, hit me up on Twitter: @sixfootgelfling. It's the fastest way to get my attention short of having my personal phone number.

"No Light, No Light" by F+tM

by E on 12-30-2013 at 09:39 PM

"No Light, No Light"

You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between what I thought
And what I said

You are the night time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over you'll start
You're my head
You're my heart

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
No light
Tell me what you want me to say

Through the crowd, I was crying out
And in your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me, I need to make it right

You want a revelation,
You wanna get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
No light
Tell me what you want me to say

Would you leave me,
If I told you what I've done?
And would you need me,
If I told you what I've become?
'cause it's so easy,
To say it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love,
To say it to you out loud

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day,
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
No light
Tell me what you want me to say

You want a revelation,
You wanna get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

You want a revelation,
You wanna get it right
But, it's a conversation,
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation, some kind of resolution
Tell me what you want me to say.

Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic, oh my.

by E on 08-11-2013 at 07:08 AM
I just got back to Pori (technically, the "suburb" of Pihlava), Finland after a day in Budapest, Hungary and two days in Prague, Czech Republic. I can't even stress how amazing both cities were, when their weather wasn't trying to kill us.

Budapest was hot, and I mean 110°F hot. The Danube Shoes (a memorial to the Jewish people who were shot at the edge of the river) was sobering, and I'll definitely be posting all the pictures I can muster as soon as I get a chance to pull them off my camera. I was lucky enough to have both camera and phone, but it was hard to double up on shots. The castle and the underground were both fantastic, the spy museum needed a little work, the ruin pubs turned out to be quote the once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the food was to die for.

The train trip from Budapest to Prague started out wonderfully. A 6 hour trip, I think? I'll have to check. We were lucky enough to get first-class tickets, and the dining car was the best place to be. The cook was an actual restaurant-quality chef and he created some of the most amazing dishes we had on the trip (with a kitchen smaller than my bedroom, while moving!). We were having a great time when the conductor came through, telling everyone that we were going to be delayed two hours thanks to a, direct quote, "fire forest." What are the odds?

We got to Prague too late for a shuttle, but walking wasn't out of the question, so we hooded it to our hotel. We had the fifth floor, two turret rooms, all to ourselves. The city itself was built like one would imagine Disneyworld was based on. Original paintings on buildings, the astronomical clock in Old Town Square, and a multitude of statues and churches just spotted the city from top to bottom. We walked and walked and walked and walked for the next day and a half, taking in as much as we could. Again, the food was excellent, everywhere we went. Weinershnitzel and tomato and mozzarella salads and Sex on the Cobblestones cocktails and just a ton of other just unbelievably delicious consumables, everywhere. Even a day of rain didn't stop us from the Prague Castle changing of the guard and scouring the souvenirs shops for that perfect pink hoodie for my niece.

The Czech crown was a 25:1 ratio with the Euro while the Hungarian florint was closer to 255:1, so overall, the prices were manageable. Between all five of us, we spent an average of $170 total on food and drinks for all three, four days of touring and travel. And that's for five-star, world recognized quality food and cocktails. In the US, we would have probably ended up spending twice that for the same quality.

My poor feet are just beat to shit. I didn't have my pedometer on me, because I was a derptard and left it in Finland, but I know I clocked miles upon kilometers trudging the back alleys of Budapest and the many-colored streets of Prague. I made the mistake of getting a strap on my sandals twisted and not fixing it right away, so I have wounds from that and blisters from pure steps taken. Totally worth the effort, but I found myself just worn to a fuzz every night. Slept like a rock every time I laid down. Couldn't sleep on planes though, and the three-hour car ride back to Pori/Pihlava from Helsinki wasn't helping any, especially when I was placed on Moose Lookout. Apparently those buggers will just take the hits from these little cars and leave people dead. Yikes.

So now, I'm looking forward to a two-week stretch of time with my sister and her family here in Finland, after which I will be heading to Paris, France, from whence I shall board a plane on my own little lonesome and fly back to NYC, JFK Terminal. Hopefully customs won't take too long and I can get on a train back to Albany before Saturday, the 24th ends. Classes start on the 26th, so ill have to get my books ordered while I'm still in Europe. Oh, hilarious fate.

New Apartment!

by E on 07-06-2013 at 11:20 AM
So, here's what I've been up to:
  • Tracked down a new apartment.
  • Packed everything up.
  • Moved into the new apartment (in a day and a half).
  • Played Pokémon before I got internet set up.
  • Worked and worked.
  • Started packing again for a month-and-a-half long trip to MN and Europe.

I'll be leaving again on July 15th for Minnesota, where I'll be until August 3rd. August 3rd to August 24th, I'll be in Pori (Puri?) Finland, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Paris, and possibly Ireland at some point.

Hopefully, I won't be completely dead to the world when I start classes the Monday after flying in from Paris. Jet lag can be a sneaky bitch.

If I can get internet access over in Europe, I'll try to take and post pictures for those who are interested.

Oh, yeah, right, pictures of the new apartment!

And a sketch that I started before I got my wifi set up:
