About Adeou
I like Pina coladas, long walks on the beach... (seriously).

No, really? I'm a pretty laid back guy. I really enjoy hanging out with my buddies here in MR. I've been a member since a month after the guild was created in 2006, and have spent most of that time as a leader.

I really do enjoy making this community as great as I possibly can, with the help of my friends. If you have any suggestions, feedback, or concerns don't hesitate to PM me about them. I'd be happy to listen. Alternatively, if you have any good ideas for RP, or want to get involved with one of my story arcs, I'd be equally thrilled to chat with you about it.

Feeling a Digital World

by Adeou on 08-10-2012 at 04:24 PM
Tiny electric currents can be used to simulate different textures on an otherwise featureless surface. A few years ago I saw an article detailing research into making an LCD display with buttons that would 'feel' bumpy, sticky, smooth, sandy, etc using a similar technique.

Now it seems Disney is advancing this research and dropping the whole bit about having an LCD screen: they're working on artificially inducing perceived textures on any surface they want (ie- projected images on a wall could then be touched and felt: you may one day be able to pet a digital Micky Mouse)

Game of Economies

by Adeou on 06-20-2012 at 03:41 PM

I saw an old friend of mine link this to his facebook. It's a fairly lengthy read, but very intriguing. If nothing else, consider this: real world theoretical economists are now looking towards Valve (and potentially other video game economies) to literally research new discoveries and potentially learn things no one knew before - things that would be applicable to real world problems like the looming situation with Greece and the European Union.

For security reasons, I'm typically not a fan of massive-scale data collection (or really, the fact that everyone is constantly being subjected to it, frequently without their realization). But usually my complaints revolve around social media data mining. I can't really argue against mining economic data from millions of video game purchases and using it to solve real-world problems.

This is pretty awesome when you consider it all and combine it with everything else. Our video games are no longer just toys: they're powerful tools being used by modern scientists to advance our body of knowledge (which furthers society). Tell that to your buddies the next tine they jab you for playing too many video games.

New Website Launch

by Adeou on 05-23-2012 at 11:27 PM
We're finally here! I can honestly say that I've never worked longer or harder on a single website. Of course, I've only ever worked on a handful of them, but let's not get into details...

Really big thanks to Delevi in particular for all that he's done! And also to Thadrius, Eithyne, Mandeville, Dane, Xarysin, Decain, Dreamer, and everyone else who helped make this happen.

We've put a lot of work into the site, and best of all we control the whole thing, so hopefully this will be the last move we do.
