MR’s Three Year Anniversary

It was three years ago this day that a rather unusual group of travelers met together for the first time inside Westbrook Garrison. Some say it was the pouring weather outside that brought them under one roof. Others are convinced there was a much higher calling. Five noble souls reached an accord that night. They laid the foundation for what would become one of the Alliance’s most valuable allies: The Midnight Reveries, and her Golden Army. Their names shall not be soon forgotten:

Lantern, Lord of Craftsmanship & Trade

Peyth, Lord of World Politics

Ergluth, Lord of World Warfare

Alcantara, Lord of Champions

And the visionary Lady Dreamer herself – the Overlord.

In the three years since, the Reveries have undergone profound changes. The only remaining founding member is Lady Dreamer, and she continues to illuminate the path of the Reveries. In the absence of the other founding members, leaders have risen to take command of the now vast army.

The Reveries remain under the command of King Varian Wrynn, who has them stationed at Wintergarde Keep. The cold doesn’t seem to be slowing them down however, as their armies march ever closer toward Arthas’ stronghold. After proving themselves to the Argent Tournament, there is no doubt we will see the Golden Army among the elite for the final battle.

In the meantime, it’s looking up for the Reveries at their three year mark: Their ranks have never been thicker, nor their spirits higher. I’m sure this won’t be the last time hearing from them.

Reporting to you from Wintergarde Keep, this is Adelorei Serajivou

On Thursday September 17, 2009 The Midnight Reveries celebrated their third Anniversary.

To commemorate this occasion, I had the privilege of interviewing the guild’s founder and most prominent leader: Dreamer.

Lets start at the beginning.

Dreamer, what was your intention when you created the Midnight Reveries three years ago?

Dreamer: “We had one lone goal from the beginning: to form the best RP guild on the server.”

Which is exactly how Midnight Reveries began – with the determination to provide an unparalleled role play experience for it’s members.  To this date MR has maintained a reputation for RP excellence. With over five hundred recorded story lines in the past two years alone, the lifeblood of the guild continues to be the creative minds of it’s members.  Now, after three years, they have evolved into something much more, given their recent end-game performance as well.

Did you have any idea what MR would become?

Dreamer: “Yes. From the very beginning I told people that if they stuck around long enough, they would find themselves in the best RP guild on the server. I think I was right. Although I will admit, there was never an intention to pursue end-game content. Raiding was never a priority in vanilla WoW – it didn’t even exist for MR until BC.”

MR means something to a lot of people. What does it mean to you?

Dreamer: “Friendship. Memories. Stories. Hard work. But most of all: Friendship.”

If you could do it all over again, would you do anything differently?

Dreamer: “No.  Well… actually, I wouldn’t have picked a guild name that was trademarked by Godiva.”

If you had to pick one, what is your favorite part of MR?

Dreamer: The people. We have some of the most imaginative, intelligent minds in the game. In all of my life experiences being involved in sports, school, work, etc, I am just blown away by the shear number of creative minds residing in this one place.  It’s outstanding.”

Can you describe MR in one word?

Dreamer: “No.  I can’t think of a single word that is awesome enough to describe us.”

Dreamer certainly has had an impact in making the Reveries what they are, but no single person can take all of the credit. A guild is sustained by its members, so I put the same questions to some of them. Here’s what they said:

What does MR mean to you?

“The people. I feel like I’ve truly made friends in the guild.”

“Home. I feel more at home in the Reveries, both IC and OOC, than anywhere else.”

“An evolution of the game in itself. It is what future guilds can be, and what they mean in terms of RP.”

“The friends I go hang out with when I want to kick back and have fun. I just enjoy hanging out on vent and talking to people, like a family.”

“MR is the reason to do anything remotely involving WoW.”

“Its like a big family with the same interests that I have. One that I can really connect to and not feel like an outsider.”

“I like feeling that I am a part of more than just an individual character (IC and OOC). It’s the reason I still play WoW at all.”

“Phat Lewts (kidding). Really: the people. I’ve grown attached to them. And had it not been for those friendships, I wouldn’t be in here right now.”

“It’s the reason I play this game. If I wasn’t in this guild, I can’t see myself playing at all. It’s like a family away from real life.”

“MR is a good group of people. People of every sort. I just like the community.”

“MR is all about friendships. That’s why I came back to play. That’s why other games haven’t been as fun: they lack the people.”

“It’s a pretty progressed guild that still manages to balance RP and PvP”

What did MR mean to you in the past? How has it changed?

“I’ve always found a home in MR. I know the guild changes and evolves, and I think that I’ve met the challenge of this guild changing all the time. I enjoy what I put into it.”

“I was worried I’d never get involved with people I didn’t know. Through playing, things have changed around a bit. This group seems much more dedicated to the group, rather than the game.”

“I’ve always viewed MR as a mature and respectful place to be, and I’ve always been proud to wear the tag. It’s definitely changed. Some for the better, some not so much. But I’m still proud to be in it.”

“When I first joined I was just with one friend, and we’d only been playing 6 months. I really didn’t know what a guild was and what it was all about. I thought they were the “cool kids” and everyone wants to be the cool kids. Everyone wants to be in MR, and everyone should be!”

“We’ve definitely become much more serious with a few aspects of the game. Still, we’re overall pretty good.”

“I was tipped off to join MR, but was intimidated by their application process. After getting in, I was still nervous about my own ability to RP. I got to talking with people however, and haven’t felt that since. Now, I wouldn’t put alts into any other guild.”

“I almost didn’t join, I was very intimidated.  I didn’t think I was up to snuff. But I’ve gotten to know these people and realized they’re normal human beings, no reason to get intimidated at all. And of course we’re a much bigger guild now than we used to be.”

“I considered them more of an RP guild and less of a raid guild, it seems to have shifted a bit, although both aspects are still present.”

“When I first joined it was just me and my friends from Knights of Dawn. The Reveries made us feel welcome right from the start, and it’s been heading on up since. It was a little strange at first, but as time went on we got to know each other and started hanging out more.”

If you could change one thing about MR, what would it be?

“The way I spent my time. I wish I spent more of it in RP. Other than that, I would change nothing.”

“The game – I’ve been playing WoW for years now, I wish the same group of people was on another game. Other than that, I would increase my own participation level.”

I really like the smaller community where everybody knew everybody. It’s hard to know everybody with this many people, which sometimes makes it difficult.”

We would all be PvPing 24/7, and we’d all be Relentless Gladiators at the end of the season. Even still, I’m really happy that the PvP part of the guild is flourishing.”

“This is tough… Our raid schedule. It needs to be an hour or two earlier.”

“I wish we could do more training with the newer members.”

“I’m not sure I’d change anything.”

“I’d like to install seats in our meeting room at the headquarters. The floor gets a little cold. A throne would be even better actually.”

“I wish we were smaller. There’s nothing really wrong with it, but I like being able to know all the members, and sometimes MR is a little big for me.”

“The server size, it would be fun to have more people and more diversity. MR has always been on the top, it can get a little boring. It would be nice if there was a bit of competition. I’d like to change the setting where MR is.”

“I wouldn’t mind seeing more chances for communication – more ‘mixers’ as it were.”

If you had to pick one, what is your favorite part of MR?

“The consistency of the people – I’ve known many of them for two years or more now.”

“Friends. Logging on and getting to hang out with everyone.”

“Shizuma.”

“Knowing that when I log on, there’s always someone I can talk to. I never feel bored when I log on. There’s always someone to talk to, interact with.”

“The PvP aspect, and our RP stance on the topic.”

“How big, and yet how accessible it is. There are regulations in place to protect even the smallest member. It’s big enough that there’s a lot of organized events going on. There’s always someone online.”

“The people, hands down. Game mechanically, the RP aspect: There are so many of our veteran members who are still active and passionate about the guild, even after 3 years. But I would have to go back to the people, they’re what impress me most about MR.  People are intelligent, friendly, well-spoken.”

“The camaraderie. As a whole, we’re a very coherent unit of people. I like the PvP, and there’s always someone willing to do that: My PvP tastes are satisfied being around the people in this guild.”

“The stability. We don’t have people going crazy over things (drama). We’re going to be here for a while.”

“Just getting a small group together to do something, dungeons, BGs, whatever: Just getting them together to hang out and have fun.”

“Openness to almost any type of RP out there, as long as there’s some logic to it.”

“I enjoy the raiding: there’s plenty of it and it’s a lot of fun.”

“I like all of them. My favorite would be the people. It’s the people that make the guild what it is and how fun it is. Especially the friends. I’m striving to get to know more people. But the friends I’ve made that I’ve actually met irl I feel are the best ones I’ve made so far.”

“Telling Mandeville that she’s failing, even though she’s doing a pretty good job.

“The players. Not the RP/PvP/PvE, but just logging into vent and chatting it up with people. Some of my best friends in RL are in this guild. We have the best players, hands down. The best raiding.”

Where do you see MR in the future?

“I can’t imagine it’s going to be much different. It comes down to friendship and everyone working towards a goal. Maybe even in another game, who knows.”

“MR is tied to where WoW is going. Blizzard is going to keep on doing what they’re doing: we’ll keep doing what we’re doing. Become even more well-known in RP, PvE.”

“The next Blizzard MMO.”

“MR doing more RP, more raiding, more PvP, and excelling at all. As long as we continue what we’re doing, we’ll be fine. I’m optimistic about the future.”

“I only see us getting better. Hopefully we’ll get more of our RP structure back, and we’ll retain our raiding: it will be a happy median.”

“MR will get back to it’s RP roots. The barriers to raiding have gotten to the point where we can focus more on having quality RPers and not having to be focused on farming and raid recruitment.”

“I see us growing as a guild, progressing in PvE and RP, bringing more people into each.”

“About the same as we are now: hitting everything.”

“We’re going to become a PvP force again, and a larger RP presence.”

“Continuing to be, hands down, the best guild on the server.”

“I think MR is like a bamboo stick, it will bend, it will conform, but it will always be there and it will always sway back and forth. We have a lot of people with a lot of different drives, so MR can go anywhere. Luckily, we don’t necessarily have to be anyone, we can just be us.

“Getting bigger and better and taking over the server. Expand and grow and hopefully get a closer knit family and more friends.”

“Continuing to be #1 on the server. To continue growing and bringing in those relationships, more of the people who feel like they belong.”

Can you describe MR in one word?

“No.”

“Superfluous.”

“Friendship.”

“Epic.”

“Mizutastic!”

Liberty. MR is freedom!”

“Community.”

“Dreamy. (I’m amazed at how Dreamer’s name has been incorporated into just about everything we do).”

“Fun.”

“Awesome! – but that doesn’t do it justice.”

“Elite.”

“Two words: Dammit Delevi.”

“Tehee hee!”

Elite. We’re the best! We may not get the first Yogg kill, but we’ll have the most fun getting there! And no one on our server can compare RP wise.”

“Home.”
